The sacred cremation ghat where Kashi promises moksha — its pyres never go cold.
Manikarnika is Varanasi's principal cremation ghat and one of the holiest, where Hindus believe the departed attain moksha — release from the cycle of rebirth. Legend tells that Lord Vishnu dug the Manikarnika kund here, and that Shiva's jewelled earring (manikarnika) fell at this spot.
