The river's evening of lamps at Dashashwamedh
The aarti is a daily thanksgiving to Maa Ganga for sustaining life along her banks. Synchronised young priests raise tiered brass lamps in slow arcs to the beat of drums and conch — a moment of collective devotion that, at Dashashwamedh, has grown into a grand public spectacle. The dawn counterpart, Subah-e-Banaras at Assi Ghat, greets the river with music.
Best time: Daily at dusk (about 6–7 pm, varies by season)
